This is the Changelog for the Wikidot.com project. It includes all major changes, bugfixes and feature changes.

2008-01-16

Issue with cross-domain sessions:
For some time there was a problem keeping the session cross-domain. If you were trying to log-in on a wiki hosted on a custom domain your browser could enter and "endless reload loop". Now it is solved, but in some cases you might need to clear the cookies on the custom domain if you experience problems with logging in.

  • small server hiccups at around midnight 11PM UTC time — faulty configuration for image processing caused poor responsiveness and we had to take the service down to fix it; sorry for any inconveniences!

a short summary of other recent changes:

  • new theme "Shiny" — similar to the layout of our main wiki at www.wikidot.com
  • improved "Webbish" theme, old version renamed to "Webbish (old)"

  • fixed a few bugs and annoyances related to Internet Explorer 6.0/7.0 and logging in (via SSL and on a custom domain)
  • fixed the "peekaboo bugs" (disappearing content) that sometimes appeared on Internet Explorer 6.0/7.0 and the following themes: Webbish, Localize, Gila.

  • we temporarily switched to Google Custom Search to provide faster global search until we upgrade our servers. You can access the new search at http://www.wikidot.com/search:all and explore our public wikis! Site-wide (local) search for each wiki is still powered by our engine and is working fine.

Safari support is (at least) here! although there might still be small bugs, it is generally very usable and fast; this has been one of the largest issues with Wikidot so far. things that do not work with Safari are: some keyboard shortcuts in editing mode, viewing page source/history might be misformatted. we are working on the issues!

  • easier page editing: ctrl+e will open the editing box, ctrl+s will save the page
  • up to 10 "301 redirects" for each site; available under Custom domain in the site admin panel
  • change in the blocking policy: IP blocks are now checked before user blocks; this means that if someone comes from a banned IP address, he/she will not be able to edit any content on your wiki. Wikipedia does it the other way
  • we are ready for limited AdSense testing — you will be able to earn money on your wikis soon

  • if you try to leave a page you are currently editing (e.g. hit "back" button or close browser window/tab) a dialog will appear asking if you really want to do this because this would discard your changes.

Today's the biggest changes are related to greatly improved login features. Although this might look like a easy add-on, it required a lot of work with our codebase.

  • improved Login dialog interface — enter and tab work much better
  • cross-domain sessions — previously: if you were using custom domains for you site you had to login independently in each of the domains. now: login once at ANY of our wikis and we will recognize your session wherever you go within the Wikidot project, including custom domains
  • browsers can now remember and auto-fill your login/password. Firefox does the its job perfectly, other browsers might still have some issue.
  • fixed string handling (escaping) with searching modules - a minor bug
  • removed the paranoid SSL from the secure access options — the existing SSL access is secure enough and much much simpler.

  • improved connection layer in JavaScript, you should get less "AJAX request failed" on poor internet connections
  • TOS and Privacy policy more clear about not disclosing content of private wikis
  • a lot of fixes for the SSL secure access mode. Internet Explorer users should not see the "nonsecure elements" warning when accessing wikis — unless they link to e.g. http://…. (nonsecure) images in the pages.
  • fixed email validation within the some modules
  • page titles can now be as long as 128 characters
  • forum thread and post titles can be max 128 characters too
  • improved string (e.g. title) length calculation for non-latin characters
  • a few other bugfixes
  • we have completed AdSense API implementation ;-) — limited tests will start soon
