cold_blood3d: you get the point! :) There are some information that are not worth to put on the news. Also not everything in the changelog is interesting and worth reading. Twitter is the way to give information between official news about big changes, breakthroughs etc. and the more personal our blogs. I'm glad that someone finds it interesting.

twitter is becoming a news stream for lots of organizations. even my city's police department has begun using it to notify the public about important stuff, and for the public to report back, alerting them of crimes, problems, etc. They don't recommend it for emergencies though; calling 911 (North America emergency phone #) is still suggested. Helmut is right… it's a great secondary source, especially for quick updates that aren't newsworthy by themselves.

No, Michal, I will not follow "wikidot" on twitter - it is interesting sometimes what you personally are doing or thinking - explaining your mental status perhaps - but this can NEVER be an official "news" or Information way of wikidot.com for its User or customer.
Only a parallel additional way what is happening at this moment of posting.

Your "official news" are overseen by most of the users, the newbees and often the old ones too!
Now there is the next third party feed we should read to be informed.
Never. My Oppiniion.

PS: "Facebook" has a very bad taste now in europe ( personal data security problems) - I think they will loose a lot ofpeople ( who read the ToS realy and think before pressing enter) .

Edit:
OK. Ok. ok.. I will follow wikidot and it's team on twitter. It was Promods article on wikidot.com who gives me the last push. Now I am here.

Edit2:

I think now as before - this can never be a good "official" information"-line of wikidot.com

Twitter is (IMHO) one of the most amazing services out there. It took me about 2 years to believe it can be useful for anything else than just status updates for teenagers (like "I am eating my cereals") - but nowadays a lot of companies (Dell claims to earn millions using Twitter for outreach), individuals, popular bloggers and even researchers use it. Indeed they do not earn money today, but base on evaluation and investments. Recent evaluation was something about $250m.

I see a Twitter as a very specific communication tool. It is like shouting. Everybody is shouting, every message is public. But in this global noise you can find people you want to listen to. And you can talk to them by shouting back. All communication is public again.

And this is really amazing. I guess they still have no clue how to monetize this thing, but the fact is that there is a lot of money around Twitters — most popular twitterers can get thousands of new followers every day, and this is worth real $$. Dell was using Twitter to give away discount coupons for their hardware - and claimed to earn millions just by that promotion. Being popular on Twitter basically means for everything you do you get attention immediately.

Myself I am just a "minor twitterer", but I guess our experiment with a Twitter account for Wikidot can be really useful.

Following you to twitter i detect they do not make money today.

I ask me now : they are doing it for … ? ?? what ???

Collecting adresses and behaviour for later AdSense ? ( like google) .
Collecting adresses and behaviour for Natiopnal Security ( do not laugh - all is possibkle in the paranoid world today) ?

It is free now in sense of free beer and no costs ( except your personal time but this is your decicion).

One day in the future it will be not free - could be they want to implement pro accounts ( like Flickr)
or put AdSense on their frames ( on the mobile and sms messaging system this will be lazy ).

Only one thought.

I joined Twitter a few weeks ago but could not figure out the value until yesterday. The planned usage makes sense. If you're not sure about Twitter, my blog post may help convince you to give it a try: Why Twitter (Finally) Makes Sense For Building Your Business

What about Identi.ca? You can connect an Identi.ca account with the twitter one and blog only via identi.ca while your updates appear in both.
That's how I set it up with our project: http://identi.ca/filmaster vs http://twitter.com/filmaster
And Identi.ca is free software, just like Wikidot! Please use it!

We have decided to do some more outreach and leverage social media to both improve communication with our users, and tell the world about Wikidot. We have created a Facebook group some time ago, today we are launching a LinkedIn group and, most important one, a Twitter account.

Follow us on Twitter

Why follow us?

to keep up-to-date with Wikidot,

be the first one to know about changes (if you are too lazy to follow the news or changelog),

get an insight into the project — there are tons of stuff too small for a news or blog post

discover interesting things about/at Wikidot — we often discover cool stuff, we will share this with you

one more way to contact us — we will reply to every tweet you give us.

we promise we will not flood you with spam, just the things you really want to know!

If you feel puzzled and for some reason do not know what Twitter is — it is a short messaging service that allows you to publicly post messages, statuses and updates in no more than 140 characters.

Join us on Twitter now!

Join our Facebook group

Although not ultra-active, it is a nice one-more-way-to-get-people-together. If you have a Facebook profile, why not join the group? Let us see how far this group can evolve.

Join us on Facebook now!

Join our LinkedIn froup

If you do have a LinkedIn profile, please join our Wikidot group. This would help us enormously by increasing our visibility in LinkedIn.

Join us on LinkedIn now!
