New front page design preview

For the last couple of weeks one of our tasks was to redesign the front page of Wikidot. The goal was to make it clear, simple, informative and easy to navigate. As always. After a couple of iterations and designs that have never seen the daylight, we would like to show you a "sneak peek preview" of how the main page of Wikidot will look like within a few weeks. We are planning to change the design simultaneously with the introduction of paid services (more information later).

The preview is currently available at testtheme.wikidot.com, our temporary testing site.

We are still working on the content, so please do not take it as final. But we really would like to share our vision with you and hear your opinions and suggestions!

It's really nice Michal, such an improvement!

You guys certainly have spent weeks and weeks doing this. It's so clean and easy on the eyes. Very easy to read, and very logical layout. I've noticed that you fixed the problem where there was a [[/div]] at the bottom of most pages, but it seems to be there still on the explore features page.

Do you think everything will be launched before Christmas? Or will that be your present to everybody? =D

I think that both paid services and new layout will be released before Christmas. If there nothing will go wrong, even at the end of month.

Wow, the improvement using JavaScript! I love it, and it work good almost on every popular browser!!!

FYI, on the Who uses Wikidot page, there are a couple of headers (Companies and Game Services) that are missing their background image.

Whoa, I really like the new design. The images have the same style of iPhone application icons. I think the theme is perfect for an iPhone website like my iPhone Campus. Will the theme be available soon?

Hope there will be all the other used "old themes" unchanged ?

I would not like to have a shock for my users in by a not awaited change of the layout of my used themes…

But the main site looks very professional and usable…

The old themes for the wikis of course will remain unchanged!

We will most likely introduce the new theme for our front page and after a while make it available for everyone else along with other themes. So yes, you will be able to use it too! ;-)

Re: Testimonial Syntax Error

On the Testimonials page, I noticed two syntax errors, in which two people's names where not in bold. It appears that somebody forgot to close the ** tag:

• Ed Johnson;
• Whane The Whip.

To the documentation I can find at the bottom, but the community is now hidden and lost!

Thanks, the mistakes will be surely fixed. The links to the community disappeared by mistake, now fixed.
