I would like to be able to see this button even if I am already a member of a site. It is very boring to go fixing the button and then not seeing a thing. Then I have to log out to see the button, then to login again to continue, log out, log in… This module should be visible and if some already member clicks on it, he should receive the message "Your are already a member of this site".

Showing the button to members and then telling them it does not work is… not good.

We'll change it so the button at least appears in the preview. This is part of a wider problem of how to edit pages which change appearance depending on the user status. Maybe several preview modes…. ?

How about just showing all of the possibilities in preview mode? i.e. if there is this code:

[[ifuser type1]] do this [[/ifuser]]
[[ifuser type2]] do that [[/ifuser]]

In a preview, both show. Once the page is saved, only the one that corresponds with the user type appears (none appear if neither match)

unable to set password for new member applications

I created my first site last week. I added the [[module join]] to the join page, but I cannot figure out how to add the password.

The page http://community.wikidot.com/wikidot-faq says under

Administration
How to add members or invite people to join my wiki?
3. The easiest way is to send them an application password-per site - (over Private Message or E-mail) and to allow on your wiki/site this application by password (site manager - members - policy).

but I do not have any 'policy' selection under site manager - members.

The choices I have under site manager - members is:
Applications
List Members
List Moderators
List Admins
Invite Members
Send Email Invitations
History of Invitations
Let the Users Invite

Can someone take a look at this and let me know what is up?

Hey Stephen,

The page you are looking for has been moved. It isn't under the Members section any more. Just look for "Site manager" > "Access policy" (third down from the top), and then set your wiki to be either closed or private.

That page you linked to is old and needs updating… so thanks for letting us know :) I should tell you that giving people a password isn't the easiest way any more… the easiest way, if you want anyone to join, is to have an "open" access policy, meaning that people can just click on the button that appears and they will immediately become a member. The open access policy didn't exist when that page was written.
