can I predefine attributes

I want a wide user SiteChanges page which simply lists the most recently updated including new pages with a date/time of change and who changed it, sort of a cheap News page.

Can anyone help?

Not sure if I fully understand what you want, but have a look at module ListPages. Maybe it does what you want:

[[module ListPages category="*" order="dateEditedDesc" limit="5" separate="false" ]]
%%linked_title%% (last edited by %%author%% on %%date_edited|%e %b %Y, %R%%)
[[/module]]

Edit: added “category="*"” and removed obsolete “rssEmbed="false" rssShow="false"”

the above post does not work properly, it only shows MY changes, which is unfortunate, because its exactly what i want. anyone know how to show this for all authors? thanks

ListPages needs category="..."

ListPages needs category="…" selection - if you want ALL pages selected than you need category="*" as an attribute.
I would use

[[module ListPages order="dateEditedDesc" category="*"  perPage="50" limit="2000" separate="false" prependLine="||~ Page||~ Category ||~ Tags ||~ Date edited||~ Edited by ||" ]]
|| %%linked_title%% || %%category%% || %%tags%% || %%date_edited%% || %%author_edited%% ||
[[/module]]

Can you use any attributes for SiteChanges - so that you can display only changes made to pages of a category?

No, but have a look at module ListPages. Below code shows what you could do:

[[module ListPages category="name-of-a-category" order="dateEditedDesc" limit="10" separate="false"]]
%%linked_title%% (last edited by %%author%% on %%date_edited|%e %b %Y, %R%%)
