I believe the code above is a mistake, it should be [[module SendInvitations]]
It would be a really nice addition to this module to allow an optional attribute that allows invitations to be made by wikidot username instead of by email.

The site administrators can invite by username in the site manager. Have your members asked to be able to invite other wikidot users?

I have an education site in which students become site members via their teachers (who are moderators, but not admins — which is how I'd like it to stay). The teachers would find it easier to have the students obtain WikiDot accounts and then extend invitations that way, rather than by email — as the emails would have to go to students' school email addresses (which they rarely have/use) rather than their personal ones, ideally. (British schools are very nervous about anything that may be deemed to be crossing the professional divide between teachers and students…)
So, what I actually want is for site moderators to be able to access the admin "invite members" dialogue, but not the rest of the Site Manager. Perhaps a the moderator permissions page could be extended to enable different bits of the Site Manager, as well as the existing "moderate site", "moderate pages"…? Will add it as a feature request, as you suggest.

In the site manager - under members - let the suers invite there is the check box to allow members to invite other members…
Aou need only a "private" category - "Viewable to modertors and admins only " - setup in the site manager… for such an invitation page insode this private categroy with the 2 module you ( and the mods) need for such doing
I would give it a try…

I've done the private page and checked the box, but the module only allows invitations by email. Doesn't it? I want moderators to be able to invite by Wikidot username.

Yes, of course, this does niot really help…
You have only than the private messaging system ( with a standard text perhaps copied in) to the existing users.
Invite members does the same in reality ..it sends a notification with the question - yes or no - to teh users PM system.

Can I generate the invitation link that appears in the email myself?

I tested this mailed Link is a hash-count with a joined user-name and site…
Question: why do you not use the Join Module ? http://www.wikidot.com/doc:join-module
Than you can send a link of the Join-page of the site over PM WITH the specificied "password" for the joining by password …( of course - you need to setup a password at the site manager..)
