The atributes of the ListPages Module seem to apply here as well.

Do the attributes of the LisPages module really work with RecentPosts? I'm very frustrated that this module doesn't provide any tool to fine tune it with. The long list of recent posts really clutters the screen. I hope I can at list limit the number of posts per page.

Nope, these old modules are notoriously useless for most use cases.
If you post a wish on http://feedback.wikidot.com for RecentPosts module to use the same parameters as ListPages, I will definitely rate it up. I'd like to see this functionality too.
Or, perhaps a new module, "ListPosts" would be more consistent.
Edit: Actually, I just added it myself: http://feedback.wikidot.com/wish:581 - The higher the rating, the more likely Wikidot will look at it seriously as something that needs to be implemented.
