The Beginning
Sera… Sera…
The mysterious voices echoed through the inner depths of her mind, disturbing her deep slumber. She moaned softly, a slight scowl forming on her previously tranquil face.
Lady Sera Towani… Ever since your early years as a child on Coruscant, when you first realized that you were somehow different… throughout your rise to power and fame amongst the Coruscanti elite… throughout all of your triumphs… and now, at your darkest hour, during your most tragic loss… know that we have been watching you. Now… it is time. Your lust for revenge has made you powerful, and this day you have delivered justice where the Jidai and the others have failed. Henceforth, you shall be known as Imida.
"Imm-idah?" she mumbled softly in her sleep, stirring uncomfortably.
Make haste now, Imida, and go to Ziost, where you shall spend a fortnight preparing yourself for your long and difficult journey ahead. From there, you shall come here to the world of the Ancients on Korriban… our world. Here, you will train with those at the Academy… and you shall grow stronger, day by day, until you stand tall with the others as a powerful Sith. Only then will you understand your true destiny, Imida… After many countless millenia of defeat, a New Order shall arise from the ashes… an Era of Darkness that shall encompass not only the galaxy, but this time the entire Universe…
Imida… Imida… hear us, and heed our words… if you fail us, if you become weak or foolish… you will perish, just as your family has perished - and your memory will be wiped from all of existence forever…
"Shon-rah?"
Lady Sera suddenly sat upright in the reclined pilot's seat of her personal transport as she blurted out the name. Her heart racing, she struggled to roust her mind from the deep slumber she had fallen into, and the memory of the events of the past day slowly started to creep into her consciousness. Glancing at the ship's chronometer, she realized that she had been asleep for nearly 12 standard hours. "Shon-rah?" She uttered the name again, and she reflexively looked around, as if somehow expecting to see her husband returning from the aft quarters of the ship, as he had done so many times before when he had accompanied her on business trips. Shon-rah was the love of her life, as were her two children, and they were the source of a fulfillment that she had always yearned for - until that tragic event six months earlier which took him and her children from her forever. She sighed and looked sadly at the empty compartment, as she slowly realized that she was once again having a dream. Now fully awake, she looked out the cockpit window, and realized where she was - she was still in that abandoned area on the outskirts of Galactic City, near the industrial sector, where she had arrived nearly a standard day ago.
As she continued her watchful gaze out the window, she began to recall the tragedy of her family's murder. She had been asked to tend to a business matter at one of her satellite offices on the far side of Coruscant. While she was gone, her husband had decided that his wife was working altogether too hard, and so he and the children planned an impromptu surprise vacation for her at an upscale Naboo resort. Not wishing to wait for her return, though, they packed up their travel cases and boarded their cruiser, anticipating Sera's wide-mouthed expression when they showed up unannounced. However, just after the ship's engines engaged, a tremendous explosion ripped through the hull, vaporizing the vessel and its unsuspecting passengers. In an instant, all that Sera loved, her entire life's happiness and joy, was extinguished in a violent, premeditated act. However, as heartbreaking as this was to her, the events which followed this tragedy led her to the edges of despair. The suspicious nature of the cirumstances surrounding the apparent murders caused Sera's friends and associates to distance themselves from her. She was brought before an inquisitional tribunal composed of judicial officials and the Jedi, where she was questioned at length for many weeks while she effectively remained under house arrest. Though they did not find any evidence of wrongdoing on her part, the proceedings cast a pall over her life, nearly ruining her business career and costing her a significant amount of her fortune.
As her mind drifted slowly back to the present, she rose slowly from the seat as she steadied herself with her right hand. She notices that it felt strangely warm, as it had for most of the previous day. Massaging it softly with her other hand, she made her way to the washroom aboard her craft. Turning on the light, she peered at herself in the mirror, looking at the reflection of her eyes. That color - it's finally gone, she thought to herself as she stepped from the small room and returned to the pilot's compartment. As she sat down and re-adjusted the seat, her mind suddenly began to race. I must depart - someone may come looking for him, she said to herself as she initiated the take-off sequence. As the luxury transport silently crept its way skyward through the dark Coruscanti night, she breathed a sigh of relief as she sank back into the plushly adorned seat. They will never find him, though, she realized, looking back over her shoulder as if she could still see the dark and desolate area from which she just departed. It is too remote, and no doubt the scavengers will eliminate any trace of his body long before then.
She looked at her right hand, the warmth still tingling in her fingers. He had to pay for his murderous acts, she thought. The courts and the Jidai - they were helpless fools, unable or unwilling to locate him and bring him to justice. Not that they would actually convict him, though - he was a powerful and influential man, and I had warned Shon-rah in the past about his dealings with him. Shon-rah was so trusting, though - too trusting - he insisted that the merchant was merely a greedy art collector, and he assured me that he knew how to negotiate with him. When the merchant swindled him one time too many, though, I had to intervene - and I rightfully disgraced that disgusting man in front of his association colleagues. He lost a lot of money and prestige on that day, and Shon-rah said that the merchant swore revenge upon me. Her eyes started to tear up as she could almost visualize her family's last moments, and she could hear their brief but terrified screams cry out to her, repeating over and over as if played on an endless loop holorecording. She shook her head to break the mantra as she examined the ship's scanner log, which showed that no life forms or droids had entered the area she had just departed.
Yet, he was so easy for me to find, almost too easy - and I had been wondering what I would do once I finally did encounter him. A look of disgust formed on her face as she recalled entering the abandoned warehouse where the merchant was located. His manner revealed that he did not see me as a danger - he started to laugh at me as if I were a fool, taunted me for daring to come looking for him - and then threatened me with more of the same terror if I ever dared to cross him again. As her hand began to tingle, that strange energy sensation returning to it, her expression changed to a grim smile. He never even saw it coming until it was too late, she thought as she looked at her hand, as she remembered how her arm slowly rose up from her side and pointed in his direction, fingers outstretched. Though he was across the room from me, it was as if his throat was actually in my hand - and as I closed my grasp I could hear him gasping, coughing - and then that sickening crunch right before he fell into a lifeless heap on the dusty floor. She recalls standing, arm outstretched, as if in shock for several minutes, not quite believing what she had just witnessed, doubting what her eyes and ears - and something else inside her - plainly made apparent. She rushed up to his lifeless form, and sensing he was dead, she turned to leave when she noticed his datapad lying next to his body. Fearing that it might have recorded the events that just transpired, she quickly reached down to pick it up and drop it into her satchel before she hurriedly departed the building. Her strength drained, she had journeyed back to her vessel, secured the door locks after she entered, and collapsed into the pilot's chair.
Still in her trance-like reverie, she again looked down at her right hand as it began to tingle in a slightly different manner. It slowly yet deliberately raised up and began to rapidly program a sequence of instructions into her onboard navicomputer. The lights blinked for a moment, and a lone, barren world with the unlikely name of "Ziost" appeared on her screen. Then, her hand reached for the satchel she had with her, took out the dead merchant's datapad and plugged it into the computer port. The ship's hyperspace drive began spinning up as she reached for her restraining harness and secured it. Stealing a quick glance at the output from the datapad on the holoconsole, she thought darkly to herself "the end shall be much worse for his co-conspirators" as the craft banked swiftly to the left and disappeared in a blink into hyperspace.
