Working On...
This page lists what we are currently working on and what will be available soon — for these who are interested in it ;-)
Update: Since many of the requested features need reconsidering the whole structure of flow, data storage and user interface, we have decided to move the most demanding changes to the upcoming Wikidot 2.0 revision that we are working on.
Expected Wikidot 2.0 features:
- WYSIWYG editing with much much better GUI
- more flexible site structure
- more flexible permissions system (per-user permissions, custom groups)
- modularized authentication (Yahoo ID, OpenID, …, LDAP for custom configurations)
- development kit for developers to write applications that would run within Wikidot
- flexible plugins/extensions architecture
- Dashboard for centralized management (manage all your wikis from one place)
- better internationalization + language packs + a way to create translations online
- Web API to create external applications that could integrate with Wikidot
We really believe in Wikidot 2.0 as the next step in Wiki evolution. Moreover, Wikidot 2.0 will be available for download as server-side software. This means you will be able to use it within your company, university, school.
You will also find some applications within (or as 3rd party apps for) Wikidot 2.0:
- group (shared) calendar
- project management
- blogging platform
- photo galleries
- a lot of widgets: shoutbox, chat, polls, instant messaging etc.
Expected enhancements to the current version.
- email lists for wikis (admins could e.g. email all the members easily)
- monetization options: we will let you earn money from your websites via partnerships with ad networks already done! Now you can earn with Google AdSense and Wikidot.
- fix bugs — always! ;-)
- improve support for KHTML browsers (Safari is now broken) Safari works well now but some work needed
- add new themes
- add new favicon :)
- improve themes selection and browsing
- improve page/forum watching
